I am a pilot as is my husband. We have rearranged our lives to reaffirm our family’s bond. So I appreciated how, When We Are Apart, touches on the challenges and the wins of time apart. The author does a wonderful showing how affirmations of connection & love language come in many forms. The examples at the end of the book are wonderful.
Enjoyable illustrations also nod to our military personnel and families, which I appreciated.
Highly recommend.

An endearing, touching story about a boy missing his father when he is away at work. The author, Rebecca Johnsey, cleverly uses rhymes to convey the son’s feelings and how he copes with them. When We Are Apart is a wonderful and much needed tool to help and comfort young children dealing with separation anxiety.

I love this sweet, rhyming story about helping toddlers cope with separation anxiety. Like the Dad in this story, my husband travels frequently for work. This book with the recommended activities to help would’ve been fun to use when my boys were young. Helping children learn how to manage their emotions is an important role for a parent, and this is a valuable tool to have in your home library.

What a wonderful story about a young boy’s love for his father and how much he misses him when he’s away for work. This story resonated deeply because my kids’ father has to travel for work from time and time. When he’s away, they miss him a lot. When We Are Apart gives examples of what kids may go through when one of their parents is away. Fathers are very important in a child’s life and this book – bonus, it’s also a rhyming book – highlights emotions, feelings and the special bond between a father and son. It’s a great story for kids with traveling parents or parents who are away for business.
