Sophie Stands Out
Pajamas are the best! Sophie is a little girl who loves to wear her jammies and has the best idea to wear them all day. Until she starts to get stares from everyone around town who wonders why she isn’t dressed for the day.
She can still do all the things she wants to do like jump to the moon, make a magic potion, and bike to her friend’s house. But when people around town make her feel bad about her outfit choice, Sophie must decide: Should she stand out and be herself or be like everyone else and save her jammies for bedtime?
SOPHIE STANDS OUT is a children’s picture book about learning to be comfortable in the skin – or pajamas – you’re in. A great book about children’s self-esteem for children ages 3-7.

Sophie Stands Out by debut author Katie Storey showcases the importance of being yourself and not giving up.
One morning, Sophie wakes up and decides that it would be great fun to wear her pajamas all day long. During her day, some of her friends embrace the idea while others question her unique wardrobe choice. In the end, Sophie realizes that it isn’t what you wear but how you embrace life that matters. The illustrations by Kellie Steinbeigle are bright and capture Sophie’s joy and excitement. This is a lovely story that reminds readers of all ages to focus on what they love no matter what others may think.

Original, playful, & relevant.
This picture book highlights the common conundrum of what is decided as a social norm and what feels true to oneself. The reader is sees a day from the perspective of a child who defines the coined phrase ‘you do you.’ Captivating and humorous illustrations bring the text to life.
My favorite lines are: “What else should we do while we are on the moon, Astronaut Holly? Collect moon rocks?” Sophie asked. I personally love the moon and the creative thoughts it can inspire in this type of imaginary play.
Sidebar notes:
Love all the humor the unicorn adds in each illustration. I laughed out loud.
Love the color palette.
Love Sophie’s tenacity.

Sarah Van Wagenen –
The cutest girl with a focus on her own ambitions. She wants to spend the day in her pajamas and is ok with being different. A great message for boys and girls. A reminder you can be happiest choosing for yourself, without having to just try and fit in. With incredible illustrations to match an important message, this has become a favorite with my kids. They love the idea of getting to stay in pajamas all day!
