I really enjoyed this book because it reminded me of when my husband and I first got our dogs. It’s a great book for a child because it helps them understand that having an animal is a big responsibility and that they need the owner to take care of them. The book is nicely written and has an adorable main character that a child can’t help but fall in love with. The illustrations are beautifully done and go perfectly with the storyline. I think Brooke Van Sickle has done a wonderful job with this book and I can’t wait to see what else she comes out with.

Kobe thought he’d be living in the lap of luxury when he first moved in. There was everything a dog could need:
- Fenced in yard.
- Food dish insight.
- And PLENTY of space to spread out.
But it didn’t take him long to realize his humans were clueless! If Kobe was going to live the dog’s life of his dreams, he needed to train his humans.
Humans In-Training by Brooke Van Sickle and Elizabeth Savanella is a laugh-out-loud, children’s picture book that will soon become a favorite in your household. Kobe, the loveable Labradoodle puppy, had no idea humans needed training. (And neither did they!) We don’t want to spoil it for you, but we can’t say his humans are too pleased with their training either.
If your child’s been asking for a puppy, bring them home a children’s dog book instead! Kobe makes the perfect children’s pet book. Humans In-Training is also a great read for anyone thinking about bringing a new puppy into their lives and for current dog moms and dads to think back to the puppy years.

I was excited to receive an advance copy of Humans In-Training, which was beautifully illustrated. In my opinion, the best two pages are when Kobe the dog describes his humans “as exciting as a chewed-up toy” and the last page. (Don’t flip to the last page until you’ve read it all, though!) Children who love puppies may love this book.

I was so excited to get an advance copy of Humans In-Training and it is wonderful! My foster-to-adopt kiddos moved in earlier this year and they have a funny relationship with our dog. We have a lot of fun comparing our doggy’s quirks with the things we see Kobe doing on the pages. I think this book would also be cherished in homes adjusting to a new puppy!

My kids loved this book! We have a dog at home and the kids will often “speak” in his voice, pretending they know what he is thinking and this book cleverly and beautifully illustrated a dog’s perspective of housetraining and getting accustomed to being part of a new family. The kids especially loved the ending of the book, it made them laugh out loud. I would highly recommend adding this adorable book to your collection.

If you’ve ever had a puppy, you will understand the antics of Kobe! He only wants to be helpful, but well, he’s a puppy. 🙂 It’s a fun read, and the pictures are super cute. Kids will love Kobe and parents will identify with the humans “in training.”

Love at first sight! The minute I saw this book, I wanted to read it. The illustrations are so endearing and ‘cuddly,’ and the story, told from the puppy’s perspective is comical and leads to an unexpected, funny surprise ending. I read this to my neighbor’s 4 year old, who begs me to read it over and over. She wants a dog but doesn’t have one–so Kobe fits the bill (for now) It reminds me of books my daughter read on her own, long after I had to read it to her. He becomes part of the family, and a lovable friend. It’s a ‘kinder, gentler’ book, but with lots of humor. You will enjoy it!
