I love a good rhyming read and Holly also incorporates some simple math strategies into the story. Young readers will resonate with the various friendships forged along the way, how Dilly Duck uses his super friendly powers to engage his friends to try new things. From dancing and discovering to creating new ideas and being a role model, Dilly shows the importance of a true friend. I can’t wait to read this wonderful story with my little ones.

From the cover and all through the book, Dilly makes me smiles as does each new duck who joins the group. “Together is better” brings forth not only good memories but reminders for both adults and children about the value of friendship.

A lovely little rhyming story, perfect for little ones! Especially good for little ones learning to count. My daughter liked that on each page a new duck appeared and counted the ducks each time!

This book was amazing. The illustrations are adorable, Dilly duck is relatable and endearing, and the resources available at the end of the book and on the website are top notch. This book incorporates math, literacy skills, social emotional learning, and is just fun! Great for use in the classroom, as a bedtime story, or just for fun! Highly recommend to anyone with a young child.

This book is a literally grand slam~ counting, emotional engagement, and playful rhyme text. I am an author and respect the challenges of incorporating all of these elements into a picture book. The illustrations pop and the text glides. Additionally, I enjoyed learning about the author from her listed website in the book and hope others visit her website too. Highly recommended, particularly for a classroom setting.

Amazingly beautiful children’s book, with rhyme, counting, life lessons (kindness, care of Earth and creatures) and gorgeous artwork! It’s a larger book that allows the colorful pictures to pop and flow from page to page. The uplifting rhymes are engaging and fun to read aloud. . . I’m sure Dilly will become a favorite childhood friend.

As a speech-language pathologist, I am always looking for great children’s books to use with my clients. My new favorite book, Dilly Duck Plays All Day by Holly DiBella-McCarthy, is just the kind of children’s book I love because it enriches kindergarten readiness and language skills! DiBella-McCarthy is a former preschool and special education teacher and administrator who understands the readiness skills children need to succeed. Her book, Dilly Duck Plays All Day encourages rhyming, pre-reading skills, science, math skills, and is embedded with rich vocabulary. The illustrations provide a variety of emotions, descriptive colors and beautiful nature scenes. At the end of the book, the author provides critical thinking questions. I like to use this book to describe character traits and their differences. This book is great to discuss the story elements of characters, settings, problems and solutions, as well as retelling a sequential story with beginning, middle and end. The author describes in her biography, a true story about her childhood and how her pet duck named Dilly helped her grow her voice and confidence. In addition, DiBella-McCarthy’s website, https://hollydibellamccarthy.com/, provides free resources, and kindergarten readiness extension activities. Dilly has made a splash on my book shelf!

I loved this book and so did my 3-year-old neighbor, Emma! The beautiful and colorful illustrations together with clever & fun rhyming will hold young learners’ attention from the start! In addition to counting to ten, children will see the value of friendship and support. It also offers suspense for a page-turner storybook. Activities are provided at the end to reinforce the little one’s new learnings. Emma had me read it to her 5 times in a row, she LOVED Dilly Duck and friends!!!

Dilly Duck Plays All Day is an educational, engaging & fun children’s book with beautiful & colorful illustrations. Children can count along each time a friend is added to the story. The book includes a free activity guide which is a big plus. It is a hit with 3-4 year olds and the adults reading it.

What a great book! While reading, I couldn’t help but think about my prekindergarten students! They would love this book and learn from it also. The pictures catch your attention (which is so needed for young children), pull you in, and make you want to see what comes next. The book is so well written and includes many learning opportunities like counting, emotions, friendship and kindness. I can’t wait to read this to my class!!

This story is a wonderful resource tool for pre-school educators! First, the bright colors and vivid illustrations are an attention grabber for young children. While the pictures keep them engaged, the fun ryhmes help cultivate a love for reading integral to preschoolers who are just starting to learn. Most importantly, math skills are cleverly woven into this sweet story about Dilly Duck who is lonely, bored and desires companionship. Just as important as counting is to this story, the moral is crucial. No matter our differences, being together is better.

This is a sweet rhyming book that helps children enjoy learning. Dilly collects her friends one by one throughout the story, until they reach 10 friends. Our four year old routinely counts his friends, so this is a perfect topic for little ones.
This story resonates with our kids and know it is a great book to add to your library. Your little one will enjoy reading about Dilly and her emotions as she and her friends navigate their surroundings. Great book!
