This book is beautifully illustrated and filled with gentle humor. The author subtly demonstrates acceptance between the head hen of the coop, Pearl, and a new playful rooster, Wendall. Extra funny because I believe this is not an uncommon scenario in a backyard chicken coop. Will be a quick favorite in our house!

This children’s picture book is a fun adventure with two contrasting main characters – Pearl and Wendell will have your family engaged until the very end. There may be a hero or heroine in our midst. From laughing to crying, and back again, the author appeals to all your emotions. I love the colorful expressions on all the character’s faces. One of my favorite illustrations is a supporting hen hiding behind a lamp, haha. It was entertaining looking for the little mouse-y friend on each page. I hope you enjoy this sweet and amusing story with your loved ones. I definitely recommend this book and plan to get more for my friends as they have children.

Tavares and Moore have crafted a gem of a book. The characters are funny, compassionate and cunning! The beautiful illustrations bring the characters to life and add depth to the drama in the coop. Children will cheer on their favorite character as the plot unfolds and what at first appears as a simple conflict soon develops into a battle of wits and wills. In this allegorical tale, children learn about the values of compromise and compassion. Parents and teachers will “flock” to buy the book to share the important and engaging message with students of all ages. Although this is a book slated for younger children, the theme is timeless and should be enjoyed by readers of all ages.

is everything I “egg” spected from the title.
Pearl is a lot like myself and likes things her way! She gets her literal feathers ruffled when Wendell decides he’s moving into the chicken coop! After chaos ensues, compromise and compassion are learned. This book will become a family favorite.
The colorful illustrations by Siam Moore keep you excited to turn each page. I love the tiny little mouse who can be seen throughout the book, especially when he high tails it into the pink dresser drawer!
Can’t wait to read this book to my grandkids!!

Not only is this story engaging, but the brightly colored illustrations are filled with fun details, just waiting to be discovered. This story will engage young readers AND allow for thoughtful wonder and discussion of feelings. Is one of these characters (Pearl or Wendell) more clever than the other? What do you suppose might happen next? A delightful read-aloud.

Chicken Coop Chaos is a darling picture book by Nancy Tavares and illustrated by Sian Moore. This story tells the tale of Pearl and her comfortable life in her chicken coop until Wendell, the rooster, decides he’d like to share her home. Pearl is determined to get Wendell out and Wendell is persistent in proving his worth. This book is cleverly written and beautifully illustrated and will be an instant favorite read in any home or classroom. 5 Stars for this delightful new picture book! I will be buying copies for all the teachers and children in my life this holiday season
