The illustrations by Olena Khakovenko are a fantastic blend of realism in full color and more muted background tones that allow for Brady, his yard pals, and those big, bad shadows to really pop. Together, Manente and Khakovenko have crafted a perfect addition to our bedtime reading routine.

I have taught Kindergarten for 22 years and I have read many books over my career. Brady and the Backyard Monster will now be used every year in my class. My students loved it and wanted to hear it again! That’s a wonderful sign! All of us fell in love with the drawings and related to adorable pup, Brady, and his fear of the unknown! This book can used to teach and discuss courage, friendships, normal fears and over coming them. I will also use it during my Shadows Unit around Groundhogs Day! A must have and a must read!
